The University of Cape Town, and the Faculty of Law, are committed to encouraging postgraduate study to support both cutting-edge research and the development of advanced analytical skills and new thinking. To this end, there are a number of funding options that prospective postgraduates can pursue.
Due to high demand and limited funding, most scholarships contribute only to the cost of study. Applicants are advised to seek additional support from other sources.
While the university runs a dedicated Postgraduate Funding unit, providing information and support on internal and external funding opportunities, the Law Faculty has a number of law-specific scholarships available for postgraduate study.
The call for applications is issued towards the end of the year for the following year, usually with a mid-November deadline. There is sometimes a second call in February / March for the current academic year. Full information on deadlines, how to apply, and the forms and application templates, can be found on the Faculty's main website. Detailed information on each scholarship can be found in the Law Faculty Handbook.
