LLB Class of 2015

The law can be used as a tool for problem-solving as well as to champion positive change in the lives of others. Moreover, the law plays a vital role in our everyday life. These characteristics of the law are what drew the younger Robin Vers to studying law in her efforts to understand how legal systems have functioned over time.

Robin holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) (majoring in History and Law) and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Cape Town.  In 2011 she was recognised as a talented law student and was awarded the UCT Law Faculty Endowment Scholarship. However, this was not the end of her achievements because in 2012 she became a member of the Golden Key Honors Society (UCT Chapter) as well as being awarded a Norton Rose Fulbright Scholarship in 2013.

Throughout her university experience she has stood out amongst her peers. Robin is clear that being a Law Endowment Scholarship recipient – and having Ms Pauline Alexander (former UCT Law Development & Marketing Manager) as a champion - opened the doors for her to complete vacation programmes with two prestigious law firms.

After graduating with her LLB in 2016, Robin did her articles at Norton Rose Fulbright and later worked for the firm for a year as an Associate.  She currently works as an Independent Contractor on project work and with Cognia Law occasionally. Robin says that she is eternally grateful for the scholarship as it saved her from the burden of graduating with student debt. She explains that this would have not been possible had it not been for the generosity of the Faculty of Law's donors.

Many young South Africans find themselves faced with the reality of drowning in student loan just to fund their tertiary education.  It is with funding support such as the Law Endowment Scholarships that many of us are able to achieve our dreams.
