Adjunct Professor T Madima SC FCIArb holds degrees from the University of the North (Bachelor of Law), University of Essex (UK) (Master of Laws in International Human Rights Law), University of Cape Town (eMaster of Business Administration) and (Master of Philosophy in Constitutional and Administrative Law), University of Johannesburg (Master of Laws in Intellectual Property Law) as well as a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Essex (UK).

He is fluent in (Tshi) Lu-Venda, Xitsonga, SePedi, SeTswana, SeSotho (Speak, Read and Write) as well as Afrikaans and French (Speak and read).

Professor Madima SC was admitted as an advocate of the High Court of South Africa in 1994. He joined the Johannesburg Society of Advocates in 2005 and the Cape Bar 2004. He has been a member of the Black Lawyers Association (BLA) since his admission as an advocate. He is on the BLA-Legal Education Trial Advocacy Faculty.

Professor Madima SC has acted as a Judge of the Cape High Court as well as the Gauteng Division of the High Court of South Africa intermittently between 2005 and 2018. He has authored no less than 60 judgments as an Acting Judge of the High Court.

He was appointed by the State President as a Member of the Competition Tribunal in August 2009 to July 2014. He authored / co-authored no less than 14 judgments in that capacity.

Professor Madima SC has been an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Commercial Law since 2007. He has examined one PhD thesis and no less than eight LLM dissertations since his appointment as an Adjunct Professor. He has been teaching an Anti-Discrimination Module to LLM students since 2008.

Most recently he was part of a panel in the October 2024 UCT Arbitration Day where he gave a lecture on Arbitration at the CCMA. 

Professor Madima SC has a special interest in Commercial Law, Administrative and Constitutional law, Refugee Law, Land Law, African Customary Law, Employment law, Competition Law and Contract Law.

He has recently been admitted as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb) UK. He has, in the past 10 years acted as counsel and as Arbitrator in no less than 10 commercial matters under the auspices of the Arbitration Foundation of Southern Africa (AFSA).

Professor Madima SC has published several articles in inter alia, Employment Law 1993, Industrial Law Journal (ILJ) 1993 Black Enterprise 1993 and Sowetan 1993.
