Arbitration and Dispute Resolution Unit enters MoU with African Arbitration Association

Following its launch last October (2023), UCT Law’s newest Research Unit – the Arbitration and Dispute Resolution Unit (ADRU) – has entered into a strategic partnership with the African Arbitration Association (AfAA).

An MoU signed in February 2024 by Dean of Law Professor Danwood Chirwa and President of AfAA Dr Gaston Kenfack Douajni (Minister of Justice of Cameroon) envisages collaboration on the publication of conference proceedings from AfAA’s annual conference; provides access by UCT Dispute Resolution LLM students to AfAA Conferences; and envisages further academic and professional exchanges. The MoU was negotiated by ADRU Co-directors Adjunct Professor Lise Bosman and Dr Faadhil Adams.

Following hot on the heels of the MoU, ADRU has launched its new online “UCT Arbitration and Dispute Resolution Collected Papers”, which will feature three new distinct imprints: Conference Insights, Working Papers, and Lecture Series. The inaugural UCT ADRU Working Paper 2024/01 includes the conference proceedings from AfAA’s 4th annual conference held in Cape Town in October last year, exploring the theme “International Arbitration in Africa: Transitions and New Perspectives”. The Collected Papers are available on the ADRU and AfAA websites, and will in future be included in OpenUCT.

Lise and Faadhil act as General Editors of the Collected Papers, and UCT ADRU Working Paper 2024/01 is edited by Lise together with current PCA-ICCA Fellow and UCT graduate, Courtney Kemp.
