What does ICTS do?

ICTS enables the UCT community to adopt and exploit information technologies to enhance their work. The department is responsible for the strategy, planning, management and provision of all core ICT services and infrastructure to campus and negotiates with vendors to ensure that UCT receives the best pricing and service for software and hardware purchases. ICTS provides full end-user support and training to about 5 000 staff members, postgraduates and third parties. Limited support is provided to over 25 000 undergraduate students.

  • Student training

Student computer and digital literacy is a priority within the Law Faculty, and therefore the Faculty runs a Student Computer and Digital Literacy Project as part of the annual first-year Orientation Programme. Criteria for the computer literacy project are that all 1st year students be required to do an assessment of their computer and digital skills. On completion of the assessment, detailed results are generated and fed back to the Faculty. Based on these results, students who were identified as weak in any of the topics covered in the assessment are required to attend training provided by ICTS and CILT. In 2024, students will be required to take part in compulsory training, including on Amathuba, the UCT teaching and course management platform.
