Dutch students interested in SA’s Constitution
Law students from the University of Tilburg got first-hand experience of what it was like to study Law at UCT when they recently visited the Faculty.
Dean Penelope Andrews with students from the Univeristy of Tilburg and members of the Law Students' Council.
The Dutch students were hosted by the Law Students’ Council (LSC) and were particularly interested in the South African Constitution and how South African law compared to Dutch law especially since South Africa is a former Dutch colony.
Dean Penelope Andrews welcomed the students at a breakfast, where LSC members shared their (mostly positive) experiences of student life at Kramer. The Dutch students were particularly interested in the interaction between politics and the law in South Africa. In light of the recent Constitutional Court ruling against President Jacob Zuma, many questions from the visitors revolved around the government and its constitutional obligations towards South Africans.
The Tilburg students sat in as Professor Hugh Corder gave a lecture on Administrative Law to Final Year students. They were also taken on a tour through the Brand van Zyl law library and visited the Law Clinic.
