When colleagues come to work with flu

Professor Alan Rycroft, based in the Faculty's Commercial Law Department - and a labour law expert - spoke recently to Algoa FM on the issue of what rights we have to protection from illness in the workplace.  So can we effect a citizen's arrest if a colleague arrives at work coughing and sneezing? And, even worse, shakes our hand?

Rycroft suggests this might not be the way to go, and suggests that a complaint to management might work more effectively!

Phillip de Wet, of Algoa FM, presents the issues in a summary article at https://bit.ly/2JxBpRP:

"The closest analogy here is smoking, something that has an effect on the health of coworkers," says Alan Rycroft ... "An employer has an obligation to keep the workplace heathy and safe, and a grievance can be filed against a manager not keeping it that way."

A manager who, say, fails to do everything possible to send an infectious colleague home.
