Final year LLB students in International Trade and Maritime Law had the opportunity to see for themselves the intersection between life and law at sea went they went aboard the S.A Agulhas II, a polar and research vessel, last week. The visit was facilitated by lecturer Livashnee Naidoo with the Department of Environmental Affairs and Smit Amandla Marine (Pty) Ltd.

'The trip to the SA Agulhas II was a fantastic way of viewing some of the theory we have learnt from a practical point of view. It was a great day for all students involved,'  said Kirsten Mullins. Jamie-Leigh Brandes added that ‘as a law student you often don't get a taste of experiences like this. It was really interesting to see what kind of people and environment the field of maritime law would actually impact and deal with, and to be aboard such an impressive vessel was something I'll never forget. Definitely a highlight of the year!’
