Professor Pauline Peters joined Harvard in 1982 and retired from her teaching faculty position (Department of Anthropology and School of Government) in 2008. She continues her research, which has concentrated in Malawi and Botswana though she has also collaborated with researchers in other countries of Southern Africa. Since retiring, she has been a Visiting Research Professor, Chiao-Tung University, Taiwan (2009-10) and Fellow, Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (2011).

Recent publications include 'Our daughters inherit our fields and our sons use their wives' fields': matrilineal-matrilocal land tenure and the new land policy in Malawi, JEAS, 2010 (4,1); Contestations over 'tradition' and 'culture' in a time of AIDS in Malawi, Medical Anthropology, 2010 (29,3); Challenges in land tenure and land reform in Africa, World Development, 2009 (37,8).
