The main public Annual Rabinowitz Lecture for 2025 will be held on Thursday 21 August in the Oliver Tambo Moot Court, Level 5, Kramer Law Building (Middle Campus, UCT).

The lecture will start at 18h00, followed by refreshments in the Faculty Common Room.

Professor David Bilchitz will deliver his lecture on the topic Transformation and Deliberation: Is the current way South Africa’s Constitutional Court judges decide cases desirable?

David Bilchitz is a Professor of Fundamental Rights and Constitutional Law at the University of Johannesburg and Director of the South African Institute for Advanced Constitutional, Public, Human Rights and International Law (SAIFAC). He is also a part-time Professor of Law at the University of Reading in the United Kingdom. He was appointed as an Acting Justice of the Constitutional Court of South Africa from February to May 2024, the first full-time academic to have been appointed directly to act as judge on the Court in over 20 years. His talk will reflect on aspects of that experience.

Keep an eye out here for updated details about the public lecture, and also about other events during the Visitorship.
