GRG welcomes visiting PhD candidate Thuli Montana from Durham University

Phellecitus Thuli Montana is a PhD Candidate in the School of Government and International Affairs (SGIA) at Durham University. Her PhD is centred on the politics and ethics of water security in Cape Town, South Africa, following the 2015-2018 water crisis. She completed her MSc in Environment and Development at the University of Leeds. Her dissertation explored how youth in informal settlements of Cape Town experience loss and damage from climate change. Prior to being granted the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) Doctoral Scholarship, she worked as a Political Attaché at the British High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa. Her work was focused on bilateral engagement between the UK and South African Government on policy issues related to climate change, energy and wildlife conservation. With a passion for good environmental governance, diplomacy and African development, she is determined to make a valuable contribution to water governance research.
