Lions eat men suspected of poaching rhinos. Some saw "karma"

Dr Annette Hübschle was interviewed by a New York Times reporter after lions killed and ate suspected rhino poachers at a private game reserve in the Eastern Cape. She explained that ““Behind poaching there’s a bigger story of structural inequality. People were chased off their land during colonialism and apartheid, losing their customary hunting rights and tenure. Today, many local communities experience some trickle-down from poaching, while attitudes are generally negative towards private game owners and protected areas.” In response to the death of the men, some social media personalities saw a moral lesson. Annette said “Whenever the death of a poacher is reported, there’s this horrendous outpouring. People seem absolutely delighted at the death of local people.”
