Ms Mathabo Baase

Bio

Mathabo Baase is a lecturer in the Department of Private Law. She holds a BA Law and Psychology degree (first in her class); LLB degree and LLM in Comparative Child Law degree (first in her class) from the North-West University. She also holds a Certificate in Theology Studies from Wycliffe Hall, Oxford University and completed a course in apologetics at the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics, RZIM Trust, Oxford class of 2016-2017.  Mathabo was the recipient of the Oxford University Press award for the best first time presenter at the Law Teachers Conference in 2018.

Her masters thesis, titled Ratification of inadequate surrogate motherhood agreements and the best interest of the child: a critical analysis, analyses the use of the best interest of the child principle in surrogacy matters.

Before joining UCT Law, Mathabo was a lecturer as the NWU (Potchefstroom Campus) where she lectured in Law of Persons, Street Law and Customary Law.

At UCT she lectures undergraduates and assists at the faculty Writing Centre.
