IMEL Co-Hosts SPLUMA Workshop
The Western Cape Branch of the Environmental Law Association (ELA), together with IMEL and the provincial Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning (DEA&DP) hosted a workshop on the Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Act (2013) on 10 October. IMEL’s Director, Professor Sandy Paterson took the audience on a quick tour of the new planning legislation that planners and other professionals will have to come to grips with once the Act enters into force. DEA&DP’s Kobus Munro provided insights into provincial government’s perspective on the Act and Peter Kantor, chair of the ELA, considered the practicalities of future land use planning applications under the Act. The event was a resounding success, thanks to the participation of the audience in the discussions that followed the presentations. The ELA, IMEL and DEA&DP would like to thank Bowman Gilfillan for hosting the event at their new Cape Town offices.
