The LLM students recently celebrated the completed of their first semester courses on the Programme, namely Principles of Environmental, Land Use Planning Law and International Law of the Sea. The occasion dovetailed with an opportunity to bid a sad farewell to one academic member of staff and welcome another. Ms Amanda Mkhonza, who joined IMEL in 2018, will very sadly be leaving to follow certain business interests outside of academia. She has been a remarkable colleague and member of the Institute and will be sorely missed. Associate Professor Melanie Murcott happily joined the Institute as from 1 May 2023. She previously headed up the environmental programme at the University of Pretoria and has keen interest and expertise in transformative environmental constitutionalism and climate change law. You can view her full profile on the Institute’s staff portal. We wish her a very happy and productive time at IMEL.
