Postgraduate Students Engage with Land-Use Planning Law
Students enrolled in the Land-Use Planning Course were also happily able to return to face-to-face teaching this year. Understanding the detailed and intricate nuances of land-use planning law solely online proved challenging over the past two years and it was to everyone’s great relief that this year students were able to engage and interact in person again. Having spent four days in the classroom grappling with the wealth of laws governing spatial planning, land use management and development, the final day was spent visiting the deep-south peninsula in order to gain appreciation of the site forming the focus of their long assignment; and time in Soetwater Nature Reserve where they had an opportunity to apply and consolidate their knowledge through focusing on various fictional legal scenarios. We look forward to welcoming the students back in May following the correspondence component of the course, for another week in the classroom focusing on the law relating to EIA, protected areas and coastal planning and management.
