Talking about the SDGs and the Law
The Institute, together with the Environmental Law Association of South Africa, were fortunate to host a seminar by Dr Fred Soltau, a Senior Sustainable Development Officer currently working at the United Nations in New York, on 17 July. Dr Soltau was a member of the core team that supported the General Assembly negotiations on the SDGs and is currently engaged in designing activities that strengthen the capacity of developing countries to report on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs. In his seminar, Dr Soltau provided a brief overview of some of the key features and structural principles of the 2030 Agenda, as well as initial findings from its implementation. He then considered the Agenda in a legal context, specifically what scope there is for creative engagement with the SDGs in the development of environmental law.
