Alexander (Sandy) Paterson from IMEL recently participated in the IUCN World Parks Congress (WPC), held in Sydney in November 2014. Held every decade, the WPC drew together over 6000 delegates from across the world, from a range of disciplines including scientists, protected areas managers, lawyers, policy makers and political leaders. Whilst there, Sandy participated in several workshops including protected areas law and governance, protected areas systems, connectivity, and capacity building. With his participation having been kindly funded by the IUCN Environmental Law Centre based in Bonn, his key role at the WPC was to raise the profile of and interest in the Centre's Protected Areas Law and Governance Capacity Building Project, particularly the teaching curriculum and resources being developed under it. You can download a brochure on the Project here.
