Prof Sandy Paterson was recently invited to present a keynote address at the Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife’s Symposium of Contemporary Conservation Practice held in Howick (Natal) from 4-8 November. The theme of the Symposium was ‘Exploring the Practice, Science and Value of Nature Conservation’. The Symposium offered a platform for the conservation community to share and explore current developments in and information about the science and practice of conservation and the value of biodiversity to society. It sought to identify solutions to critical issues and to impact policy in order to enhance conservation efforts – in Africa and beyond. Within this context, Prof Paterson’s address was titled ‘Co-Managing South Africa’s Conservation and Land Reform Agenda’s: Evaluating Recent Government Initiatives to Resolve the Unruly Interface Thrust Upon South Africa’s Protected Areas’.
