Cameron Harrington

Assistant Professor

Cameron Harrington is Assistant Professor in International Relations in the School of Government and International Affairs, Durham University and Deputy-Director of the Global Policy Institute, Durham University. His research focuses on global environmental politics. Cameron is a research fellow at the Global Risk Governance Programme, UCT.  He obtained his PhD from the Department of Political Science at Western University, London, Canada.  Following this, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow from 2014- 2015 in the GRG. His research programme, developed in partnership with WWF - South Africa examined collaborative water governance and environmental security in the uMngeni River catchment in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

  • More recently his research has focused on Security and the Anthropocene. This research takes up the challenge of pursuing new, more robust understandings of environmental security by emphasizing the extraordinary ways that the anthropocene concept shifts our ontological and epistemological foundations of security.  Cameron’s first book Security and the Anthropocene: Reflections on Safety and Care, co-authored with Clifford Shearing, was published in 2017 by Transcript Press."
