Denning Metuge
Denning Metuge is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty's Institute for Marine & Environmental Law (IMEL) who specialises in the Law of the Sea and Marine Spatial Planning Law. He joined the institute in 2024. Denning teaches and convenes IMEL’s postgraduate course on the Law of the Sea and co-teaches the International Environmental Law course. He is also the Programme Convener for Shipping Law and teaches Carriage of Goods by Sea. He holds an LLB From the University of Buea (Cameroon), an LLM (Mercantile Law) from Nelson Mandela University, and an LLD (Public Law) from Nelson Mandela University. Before joining the team at IMEL, he lectured on the Law of the Sea and Marine Spatial Planning Law at Nelson Mandela University and co-developed a short learning programme on Africa and Marine Law at the University of South Africa. He also consults in South Africa and various African States on ocean governance-related issues, including the legal frameworks for marine spatial planning. Besides work, Denning is an avid basketball and soccer fan and enjoys the arts.
