In partnership with the Equal Education Law Centre (EELC), the 2019 Spring School – "LAWYERING FOR CHANGE: LESSONS FROM THE FIELD" took place from 27–29 August. The three-day Spring School was structured as a series of interactive workshops, seminars and NGO site visits that enabled  participants from Western Cape-based universities to engage a range of public interest lawyers and social justice activists on case studies of activist lawyering in practice. Over the three days, participants engaged with topics such as movement lawyering, community lawyering and engagement, and careers in lawyering for change. We were joined by guest speakers from Lawyers for Human Rights, ProBono, UCT Refugee Rights Unit and the UCT Law Clinic; and had the opportunity to visit Ndifuna Ukwazi, Equal Education Law Centre and the Women's Legal Centre.
