This public lecture is held in recognition of the late Yoliswa Dwane’s contribution to the struggle for equality and education justice. Yoliswa was a founding member of Equal Education and an alumnus of the UCT Law Faculty. It is envisaged that this event, co-hosted by CLS and Equal Education, will be held annually, focused on themes such as inequality and social justice, legal activism, and progressive lawyering.

On Tuesday 6th May 2025, CLS and Equal Education hosted the third annual Yoliswa Dwane public lecture.  The public lecture was delivered by Dr Noam Peleg, (University of New South Wales Sydney) on the topic ‘Gaza, Children’s Rights and International Law’.  Noam is an Associate Professor and Director – Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at the Faculty of Law and Justice

On Friday 1 March 2024, CLS and Equal Education hosted the second annual Yoliswa Dwane public lecture.  The public lecture was delivered by Fatima Hassan, the Director of the Health Justice Initiative (HJI), on the theme ‘The Local and Global: Connecting Struggles for Justice and Equality’.
