This public lecture is held in recognition of the late Yoliswa Dwane’s contribution to the struggle for equality and education justice. Yoliswa was a founding member of Equal Education and an alumnus of the UCT Law Faculty. It is envisaged that this event, co-hosted by CLS and Equal Education, will be held annually, focused on themes such as inequality and social justice, legal activism, and progressive lawyering.

On Friday 24 February 2023, CLS hosted Equal Education’s Inaugural Yoliswa Dwane Public Lecture. Advocate Jason Brickhill (honorary research associate at UCT) delivered the keynote address on the theme Activism and the Law in the Struggle for Social Justice.
