The Refugee Rights Unit offers three elective courses in the faculty of law: Refugee and Immigration Law (PBL4506F) and Public Interest Litigation (PBL4111S) to final year LLB students, and Refugee Law and Human Rights (PBL5653F) to the LLM/MPhil class. The Unit’s teaching activities also include supervision of graduate-level research work in the field of forced migration (including refugee and immigration law, statelessness, and internal displacement). Students engage with current issues facing refugees and asylum seekers in South Africa, including litigation undertaken by the Clinic. Students are also encouraged to volunteer at the Refugee Law Clinic to gain practical experience and fulfil their community service requirements.
