On Human Rights day, 21 March 2019, LARC attended a popular festival led by the Amadiba Crisis Committee (ACC), together with other mining affected communities, fishers, small-scale farmers and other rural communities to celebrate and advance the right to say no.

This festival coincided with the anniversary of the killing of Bazooka Radebe, ACC Chairperson killed on 22 March 2016. The festival served as a fitting means of celebrating his contribution to the struggle of the Amadiba people as well as other activists who have been killed in the struggle against mining and maldevelopment. The one day festival was an opportunity for different communities to share their experiences and struggles. There was also an opportunity for participants to attend and give inputs and evidence at parallel workshops on a range of different topics. The Amadiba people’s struggle resonates with the lived experiences of many rural communities whom LARC supports.
