Copyright and the Public Interest - Africa & the Global South Conference 3-6 February

On 3 and 6 February 2025 I participated in a conference on copyright and the public interest co-hosted by the Mandela Institute - Wits School of Law, and the Intellectual Property Unit at the University of Cape Town , in partnership with the WCL PIJIP, ReCreate South Africa, the South Centre, Geneva.
The conference included presentations by academics, IP and other practitioners, international and domestic policy-makers, and civil society from across the continent, as well as from regions in the Global South.
On the 3rd where I spoke on a panel on balanced copyright reform in Africa. The title of my presentation was “Issues, priorities and opportunities for balanced copyright reform in Africa.”
On the 6th, I had the singular honour of anchoring a session where Prof Chidi Oguamanam presented his keynote speech. Below is a linkedIn post summarising the session.
