Event Report: Constitutional Court Review Conference 2022

The Constitutional Court Review Authors Conference was held from 1- 2 December 2022 at the Women's Jail, Constitution Hill, Human Rights Precinct, an apt venue for the very rich discussions that unfolded at the conference. Ten sessions were held over the course of the conference on the following topics: Constitutionalism, the Courts and State Capture; Disability Rights; Jurisdiction and Functional Competence; Socio-Economic Rights; Transformative Freedom of Speech; Scholar Activism; Equality and Discrimination; The Bill of Rights and Horizontality; Environmental Rights and COVID-19, Governance and Rights. 

Professor Ncube spoke on the second panel on Disability Rights providing an analysis of the Constitutional Court's decision in Blind SA v Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition and Others [2022] ZACC 33. Dr Sanya Samtani (University of Pretoria) and Professor Amita Dhanda ((Professor Emerita, NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, India) also spoke on this panel.
