AfCFTA Secretariat hosts an IP Protocol Brainstorming Session

The AfCFTA Secretariat hosted a Brainstorming Session on the IP Protocol on 25 February 2022. It was attended by the AfCFTA Secretary General, the directors general of the African Regional Intellectual Property Organisation (ARIPO) and L'Organisation Africaine de la Propriété Intellectuelle (OAPI) and several experts. Prof Ncube participated in the session. 

The Secretariat explained the the purpose of the session was as follows:

"The discussions are between the Secretariat team & invited resource persons from #Africa. The overall purpose of the session: generate ideas & provide critical perspectives on possible approaches to drafting the AfCFTA Protocol on IPR in line with the objectives of the AfCFTA.We are determined to craft a Protocol on Intellectual Property Rights that will reconstruct the continent’s fragmented Intellectual Property architecture, tailored to #African contexts, which will therefore benefit #Africa while being globally competitive."
