The months of April to June 2025 were incredibly busy and productive. We've detailed our activities in our 2nd Quarter Update of 2025.  

Highlights of the quarter include the following:

  • April:
    • Dr Charlene Musiza spoke at the Socio-Legal Studies Association Annual Conference in Liverpool.
  • May: 
    • Dr. Ghati Nyehita, attended the Race, Refuge and Repair: Rethinking Migration from the Global South colloquium, hosted at the University of Cape Town. 
    • Prof Ncube moderated a panel at the Worldwide Symposium on Geographical Indications in Victoria Falls, attended the Reimagining Cooperation on Trade and Sustainability: An African Perspective symposium, in Cape Town  and spoke virtually at international workshop Reconciliation and the United Nations Declaration Act: Indigenous Intellectual Property in Canada and International Developments, held in Moncton, Canada.
  • June:
    • The team virtually attended the 2nd Conference on the State of Artificial Intelligence in Africa (COSAA 2025) on June 3rd and 4th, 2025, in Nairobi, Kenya. Prof Ncube presented a Keynote Address on the first day. 
    • Prof Ncube, Dr Musiza, Dr Nyehita and Nate Gotora travelled to Copenhagen to participate in the  ATRIP 43rd Annual Congress themed 'Exploring the Interface Between Intellectual Property and Justice: Theory and Practice in a Dynamic Reality'. There they were joined by two former postdocs who are collaborators of the Chair, Prof Oriakhogba and Dr Kolawole. Several OpenAIR collaborators were also at the conference including Steering Committee members Prof Jeremy de Beer (who with Prof Ncube are on the ATRIP Executive Committee) and Prof Schonwetter from UCT.
