The Chair undertakes wide-ranging research in intellectual property unified by the common theme of promoting the public interest and alignment to national development. Team members research and publish in these broad areas. For example, Prof Ncube's publications to date have considered copyright and patent laws specifically in the light of access imperatives grounded in the constitutional protection of fundamental and socio-economic rights; the protection of indigenous knowledge, which was the subject of a co-edited volume, Indigenous Knowledge & Intellectual Property.; and African regional integration efforts which is the subject of Intellectual Property Policy, Law and Administration in Africa: Exploring Continental and Sub-regional Co-operation (2016) Routledge and Science, Technology & Innovation and Intellectual Property: Leveraging Openness for Sustainable Development in Africa (2021) Juta. Our postdoctoral researchers have published these books: Desmond O Oriakhogba Copyright, Collective Management Organisations and Competition :Regulatory Perspectives from Nigeria, South Africa and Kenya (2021) and Chijioke I Okorie, Multi-sided Music Platforms and the Law Copyright, Law and Policy in Africa (2019) Routledge.
