LARC participated in a conference hosted by the Office of the Valuer General (OVG): March 2026
LARC participated in a conference hosted by the Office of the Valuer General (OVG) titled: Property Valuations in a VUCA World – Agility, Integrity, and Innovation in a Changing Landscape, held on 12–13 March 2026 at CSIR, Pretoria.
The conference marked 10 years since the establishment of the OVG and sought to interrogate the legal, constitutional, and ethical foundations underpinning valuation practice, land reform, and public trust in institutions. It brought together leaders from government, industry, and academia to explore the challenges and opportunities within South Africa’s evolving valuation landscape. Day 1 focused on navigating complexity, examining law, policy, and institutional dynamics that underpin effective land reform and valuation practices. As part of the Day 1 programme, Nolundi Luwaya, the director of LARC, participated as a moderator in a session that focused on the OVG’s impact and the lived experiences of stakeholders.
Day 2 shifted the conversation towards innovation, collaboration, and future-ready approaches, highlighting adaptive valuation methods and sector-wide partnerships. As part of the programme on Day 2, LARC Researcher Ncedo Mngqibisa delivered a presentation focused on alternative research methodology, the practical activities, decisions, and ethos applied in the execution of the rural land livelihood study. This presentation was significant in responding to the question: how do we conduct land valuation in rural settings where land does not have a market value and the valuation formulars do not apply.
